THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: UDF will launch agitation seeking resignation of excise minister M B Rajesh and tourism minister P A Mohamed Riyas in the bar bribery allegations.
A protest march will be carried out seeking a judicial probe to the assembly on June 12, said UDF convener M M Hassan.
He said seeking judicial probe, UDF will intensify its protest both inside and outside the assembly. If govt is not ready for ordering judicial probe, then UDF will launch a series of protests across the state, Hassan added.
“It has become certain that the fund collection among the bar owners have taken place with the knowledge of the tourism and excise ministers. The decision to lift the dry day restriction in the state is not just to increase the revenue for the bar owners but to increase the fund flow to CPM also. CPM has received money from the bar owners for bringing in relaxations in the liquor policy,” the UDF convener said.
The present crime branch probe will not bring out the facts behind the allegation. The probe is only about the voice clip that has been leaked. The probe should be on the conspiracy hatched to collect the fund and who have received that fund. But the state police are not looking into these facts, said Hassan.
The involvement of the tourism department in changing the liquor policy also should be probed. It has to be found out whether the tourism department has given any assurances to the bar owners on providing relaxation in the excise policy, Hassan added.
