Coimbatore: District collector Kranthi Kumar Pati on Monday suspended the permit of a private bus involved in an accident at the Gandhipuram bus stand on May 15, when a man from the Nilgiris was crushed to death after getting trapped between two buses.
An official with the Coimbatore central regional transport office said the permit of the bus was suspended for seven days.“We imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on the driver as he failed to produce his licence during inquiry.”
Sivakumar, 40, a farmer from Thengumarahada in the Nilgiris district, was walking through the gap between two private buses that were parked one behind the other when the driver of the front bus reversed the vehicle.
Sivakumar, who got trapped between the rear end of one bus and the front side of the other, died on the spot. Soon, the crew of other buses and passengers caught the driver, Thirunavukkarasu, 40, of Pattanam near Sulur, who was under the influence of alcohol, and handed him over to police.
