Coimbatore: A couple were arrested in the city on Monday for kidnapping two children from Bihar and selling one child to a couple at Lakshminacikenpalayam near Sulur and another to a truck driver from Andhra Pradesh.
Acting on a tip off, Karumathampatti all women police arrested M Maheshkumar, 34, and his wife M Anjalikumari, 24, from Bihar, who were running a hotel at Appanaickenpatti near Sulur for more than three years.
On interrogation, the couple revealed that one of their neighbours in Bihar abandoned her seven-day-old male baby two years ago. The couple had taken care of the baby boy. Later, they sold the boy to a truck driver Rambabu from Andhra Pradesh. They also revealed that they kidnapped a seven-day old baby girl from Bihar and sold the baby a week ago to a couple for 2.5 lakh at Lakshminacikenpalayam.
Police rescued the two children and produced the two children before the child welfare committee, and were later sent to a home.TNN
