Salem: A couple was rescued from a 100-foot-deep well after they accidentally fell into it while returning home from their agricultural land near Attur in the district on Tuesday evening.
Around 7pm, K Venkatesh, 42, of Echampatty, and his wife Kavitha, 32, finished their work on their agricultural land and were returning home.
Suddenly, Kavitha lost her footing while crossing a well and fell into it.Venkatesh also fell into the well while attempting to save his wife.
As Venkatesh knows swimming, he caught hold of his wife in one hand and balanced himself by holding a side rock of the wall with the other hand. The couple screamed for help as it was dark.
Locals noticed the couple inside the well and immediately informed the Attur fire service station.
Personnel from the fire service station arrived at the spot around 7.30pm.
They rescued the couple after a two-hour-long struggle.
The couple was taken to the government hospital in Attur for treatment for their minor injuries.
