Thiruvananthapuram: A special team of Tamil Nadu police on Monday have arrested a medical equipment dealer, who is suspected to be the key conspirator of the murder of quarry owner S Deepu at Ottamaram in Kaliyikkavila near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border on June 24. The arrested is Sunil Kumar, a native of Parassala, and he has been arraigned as the second accused in the case.
According to the police, he was taken into custody in Hosur while he was trying to escape to Mumbai via Bengaluru. He had also abandoned his car at Kulasekharam in Kanyakumari district before escaping to Bengaluru.

Sunil Kumar is currently in custody at a secret place in Tamil Nadu for detailed interrogation. Earlier, the police had said that the gloves, surgical blade, and chloroform used by the first accused, Sajikumar, aka Ambili, to murder Deepu were provided by Sunil Kumar.
Sajikumar had confessed to having met Sunil and his friend Pradeep Chandran before the murder. The murder was planned at Sunil Kumar’s office in Parassala.
Police had earlier arrested Pradeep and also arraigned him as an accused.
A preliminary probe indicated that the murder was to snatch the money, Rs 10 lakh, that was kept by Deepu inside the car to pay it as an advance to buy the earthmovers from Pollachi near Coimbatore.
Deepu was found murdered inside his car, which was parked on the wayside of the national highway with headlamps switched on.
The engine was also running, and that made the police suspicious, prompting them to check the vehicle.
The police had also obtained a CCTV visual which revealed the killer walking out of the car carrying the bag that reportedly had Rs 10 lakh in it.
