NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP leaders and supporters organized protest marches on Wednesday across various parts of the Delhi to address the ongoing water crisis. They harshly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for its handling of the situation.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva joined the protest in Andrews Ganj, accompanied by New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj. He criticized the free water scheme of the AAP government, calling it a “sham.”
“People are craving for every drop of water. Women spent nights waiting for water tankers while children in many areas are not able to take a bath for days due to scarcity,” he stated.
The protests were not limited to Andrews Ganj. Several BJP MPs, MLAs, and office-bearers led similar marches in various municipal wards throughout the city.
In response, AAP leader and Delhi water minister Atishi addressed the severity of the issue, highlighting that 28 lakh people in the city are facing water shortages. She called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure the release of 100 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) of water from BJP-governed Haryana to Delhi.
She declared that she would commence an indefinite hunger strike starting Friday if Haryana did not release the required water.
