NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Sunday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives due to unusually heavy rains that battered the city from June 28.
“It has been reported that there has been several deaths due to drowning on 28th June, after the extreme rainfall of 228mm”, Delhi water minister Atishi said in a press note.
“It is hereby directed that the families of all those who lost their lives shall be provided a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs”, the release said.
Delhi-NCR experienced heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning on Friday morning, leading to waterlogging in multiple areas. A roof collapse at Terminal 1 of Delhi airport caused one fatality and injured eight others, with several vehicles buried under debris.
Atishi instructed the ACS Revenue to collaborate with local hospitals and Delhi Police to identify those who lost their lives, ensuring prompt compensation from GNCTD.
