MUMBAI: Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena (UBT) has strongly criticized Maharashtra‘s Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, dismissing his request to be relieved from ministerial duties as a mere political gimmick.
Raut held Fadnavis accountable for the BJP‘s poor performance in the state, attributing their defeat to the introduction of cheap tactics and a culture of deceit under Fadnavis leadership.
Speaking about the resignation request, Raut said, “This is all gimmick which is very common in politics. Even Prime Minister Modi does the drama, sometimes he laughs and in other moments he is sad. Fadnavis is his student, doing the same drama.”
Raut also expressed his views on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, suggesting that some individuals within the party are attempting to sideline him.
He emphasized the Shiv Sena UBT’s respect for Adityanath but refrained from commenting further, stating that it is an internal matter of the BJP.
Regarding the possibility of the RSS supporting a future NDA government, Raut asserted his belief that the RSS will not back the Modi-Shah government due to their alleged sidelining of the organization.
He hinted at potential changes within the political landscape, saying that the picture has just begun and there are many developments yet to unfold.
Addressing the INDIA alliance’s prospects, Raut confidently said that the public has mandated them to remove Prime Minister Modi from power and establish the alliance’s government. He emphasized that the Shiv Sena UBT will take necessary actions when the right time arrives.
He also highlighted the Shiv Sena UBT’s significant role in increasing the vote share of the Congress and the NCP(SP) in the recent elections. He attributed their success to the efforts and active campaigning of the Shiv Sena UBT and its leader, Uddhav Thackeray.
Looking ahead to the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, Raut assured that there will be no discord within the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance regarding seat-sharing arrangements. He emphasized their united front in working towards defeating the BJP.
In a separate press conference, Raut expressed the Shiv Sena UBT’s support for Rahul Gandhi’s potential Prime Ministership, acknowledging him as a proven national leader with widespread popularity within the alliance.
The 2024 Lok Sabha election results saw the BJP-led NDA alliance securing only 17 seats in Maharashtra, while the INDIA alliance emerged victorious with 30 seats.
The overall election outcome showed the BJP winning 240 seats is a significant decrease from their 2019 tally, while the Congress made substantial gains with 99 seats. The INDIA bloc, collectively, crossed the 230-seat mark presenting a formidable challenge to the BJP’s dominance.
