The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, together with SEWA Delhi, kicked off the first day of the photo exhibition titled ‘Street, Homes And Landfills: Women In City’s Waste Management’ at the Living Tradition Centre (LTC), Bikaner House, New Delhi. The six-day-long photo exhibition is being organised to celebrate the invaluable contributions of women recyclers in the waste management sectors of Delhi and West Bengal and to raise awareness around the challenges these women face, such as informal jobs and inadequate housing with migratory status in the city.

The exhibition had photos capturing real-life working conditions and the challenges of these women despite their important role in saving several crores daily for the municipal body.

Sharing views about the initiative, Huib Mijnarends, Deputy Chief of Mission from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, said, “We are grateful to the team at SEWA Delhi for their support in underscoring our commitment to uplift the communities and foster sustainable growth in India. This exhibition is a platform to showcase the unwavering dedication of women recyclers, who plays a pivotal role in waste management. We hope that this small step will pave the way for greater recognition and support for these women recyclers, who are fundamental in shaping a sustainable tomorrow.”
