About Jackfruit Shake

The summer season in India brings along seasonal fruits like mangoes, melons, litchi and jackfruit. Thus, during every summer, I prepare recipes with these seasonal fruits, apart from relishing them in their natural form.

Mango Recipes are always on the list. On the other hand, with raw jackfruit, I make this yummy Kathal Ki Sabji and Kathal Biryani, and with the ripe one, a favorite is the Jackfruit Shake.

Jackfruit, known for its unique texture and sweet flavor, is a popular fruit in South India. One of the delightful ways to enjoy this tropical fruit is by making this Jackfruit Milkshake.

This refreshing beverage combines the natural sweetness of jackfruit with the creamy richness of coconut milk, creating a delicious and nutritious drink perfect for hot summer days.

This recipe is unique as the milkshake is made with just 3 main ingredients – ripe jackfruit, coconut milk, and jaggery. It is sweet, creamy and thick beverage. Try it and you will love it.

For toppings on the shake, consider adding some sliced or chopped nuts like cashews, pistachios or almonds. I have not added any nuts but topped the milkshake with some jackfruit cubes.

You can use powdered jaggery or the regular block of jaggery for this Jackfruit Shake. Since I used organic powdered jaggery, there were no impurities. If using regular block of jaggery, use a small amount (also depends on the sweetness of jackfruit).

Dissolve the jaggery in hot water. Cool completely, strain and add to the shake. If you don’t have jaggery, then add granulated sugar. You could also include brown sugar, agave syrup, coconut sugar or palm sugar or your preferred sweetener.

Variation

To elevate the flavor of the Jackfruit Milkshake, a pinch of cardamom powder can be added. Cardamom complements the sweetness of the jackfruit and adds a fragrant note to the drink.

For an extra indulgent touch, a drizzle of maple syrup, agave syrup or honey on top or a sprinkle of chopped nuts can be added just before serving. These enhancements not only improve the taste but also add a delightful texture to the milkshake.

This refreshing drink is perfect as a breakfast beverage or a midday snack or a dessert. It can be enjoyed on its own or paired with light South Indian snacks like Banana Appams or Idli. The tropical flavor of the jackfruit makes it a hit among both kids and adults.

2. Add 200 ml thick coconut milk and 2 to 3 tablespoons powdered jaggery or your preferred sweetener.

I did not add regular dairy milk as I don’t know how jackfruit reacts or pairs with it. Some fruits like citrus fruits, melons, etc., don’t go well with milk.
