Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has sought a special financial package of Rs 24,000 crore from the Centre to tackle its severe financial crisis. Finance minister K N Balagopal raised this demand in the state finance ministers’ meeting convened by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Saturday as part of pre-budget consultations. He urged that this package be included in the upcoming Union budget.Sitharaman is set to present the Union budget in the third week of July.
The state has also demanded a Rs 5,000-crore package for the Vizhinjam port development and sought approval for the SilverLine project.
