COIMBATORE: Coimbatore city police arrested a 41-year-old man for dumping mutton and chicken waste near a temple car — belonging to Koniyamman Temple — in Raja Street.
The arrested man has been identified as M Mohammed Ayaz, 41, of Podanur.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that he was working at a mutton and chicken stall owned by his elder brother, Mohammed Vaise, in Gandhi Park.
On June 1 night, he collected the chicken and mutton waste in a carry bag and travelled two kms on a scooter from the shop to the temple car in Raja Street. He dumped the meat waste near the temple car.
Police came to know about the incident on June 2. They cleared the meat waste with the help of the corporation’s sanitary workers.
Members of various right wing outfits took videos of cleaning work and posted them in social media. They demanded that police take stringent action against the person who had dumped the meat waste.
Two special teams were formed led by Variety Hall Road police inspector Shanthi and sub-inspector Thiyagaraj. The teams collected CCTV footage and thoroughly checked the footage. They came to know that Mohammed Ayaz had dumped the waste. They came to know that he had purposefully dumped the chicken waste more than two times.
Police sub-inspector Thiyagaraj lodged a complaint with Variety Hall road station and claimed that such activity would create issues between the two communities. Based on his complaint, police registered a case against Mohammed Ayaz under sections 153 A, 290 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code on Wednesday.
Police arrested Ayaz on Wednesday. On Thursday, he was remanded in judicial custody and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
