COIMBATORE: Periyanaickenpalayam police in Coimbatore district arrested a tractor driver on Friday for torching a motorcycle.
The arrested man has been identified as G Manikandan, 36 of Jeeva Nagar at Vellamadai in the district. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Manikandan suspected that Prakash of Samanaickenpalayam, who works as a welder in a private company, often spoke to his wife over the phone.He decided to teach a lesson to Prakash by setting his motorcycle on fire. However, he set Prakash’s colleague V Palanimurugan’s motorcycle on fire thinking that it belonged to the former.
Palanimurugan, 45, who is also a welder in the company, stays in a rental room.
In his police complaint, Palanimurugan stated that he completed work by 11pm on June 17 and parked his motorcycle in front of the rental room. Later, he went to sleep. Around 4am the next day, he woke up hearing stray dogs barking. He came out of his room and found his motorcycle on fire. He had kept the original registration certificate of the motorcycle in the bike tank cover. The RC book was also torched in the fire.
Based on his complaint, Periyanaickenpalayam police registered a case.
Inquiries revealed that Manikandan had torched the motorcycle thinking that it belonged to Prakash. He was remanded in judicial custody.
