Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed the Centre-ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the recent paper leak controversies. Addressing a press conference, Gandhi stated that the Opposition planned to address the issue of paper leaks in the Parliament.

“When I went on my Bharat Jodo Yatra, students told me that paper leaks are one of the biggest issues in the country,” Gandhi said, further commenting on the issue of NEET and UGC-NET exam cancellation, “It was being said that Modi ji stopped the Russia-Ukraine war. But due to some reasons, Narendra Modi has not been able to stop or does not want to stop paper leaks in India”.

“With such incidents, only the future of students is being risked”, he added.

Gandhi also attributed the incidents to the influence of the BJP’s parent organisation on the education system. “The reason behind paperleaks is that the education system has been captured by the BJP’s parent organisation. Till the time is not reversed, paper leaks will keep on happening. Modiji has facilitated this capture. It is an anti-national activity,” he said.

“And this organisation and the BJP have penetrated our education system and destroyed it. What was done by Narendra Modi to the economy with demonetization, has now been done to the education system,” he added.

“Such incidents are happening because all our institutions have been captured. Our Vice-Chancellors are placed not based on merit. But because they belong to a particular organization,” Gandhi alleged.

“The reason this is happening and the reason you’re suffering is because an independent, objective education system has been demolished…It is very important that the guilty people here are brought to book and they are punished,” the Congress leader said.

The Paper Leak Controversy

The controversy surrounding entrance-level exams continued to develop. The Ministry of Education announced the cancellation of the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) examination on Wednesday night, a day after lakhs of students had taken it across the country.

The decision by the education ministry exacerbated the ongoing NEET-UG row.
