Hyderabad: Syngene International Ltd, announced the second edition of its scholarship, mentoring and industry orientation for women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in collaboration with the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH).

The program offers scholarships to women studying STEM subjects at tier II and III institutions across the country and enables them to gain industry experience in research institutions and companies.

According to Sygene, the program addresses contemporary issues like higher dropout, limited opportunities for women and bridges the gap between theory and practice by enabling students to gain internships and practical experience in the industry.

For the second edition of the program 30 candidates have been selected out of which 10 will take part in the undergraduate programs and the rest 20 for the postgraduate programs.

Commenting over the initiative Sridevi Khambhampaty, Vice President, Biopharmaceutical Development Syngene International Ltd said, “We are delighted with the outcomes of the first cohort of the program. Encouraging women in STEM subjects is not just about achieving gender parity but it’s about unlocking innovation as well.”

Voicing her stance Rashmi Pimpale, CEO, Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) said, “Beyond financial assistance, our aim was to provide marginalised female students with invaluable hands-on learning opportunities in the top research and development institutions and industries located in Hyderabad. We believe this exposure acts as a bridge between academia and industry, igniting a passion for STEM among young women.”

Meanwhile 21 women who completed their training under the inaugural edition were also felicitated at the launch. Sharing her opinion Akshita Kulshrestha from the first cohort said, “They have provided real-world context, skill development, networking opportunities, project guidance, career insights, and have given me the confidence to pursue my aspirations in scientific research.”
