MUMBAI: An electrical fitter employed with Western Railway (WR) lost his life due to electrocution while attempting to repair a Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) cable on June 20.
The deceased Nvanath Bhoir was responding to a critical electrical fault near the Railway Level Crossing Gate at Dahanu Road when the incident occurred.
WR’s chief public relations officer Vineet Abhishek stated, “On June 20, Bhoir, accompanied by a colleague, was assigned to address hanging cables reported near the crossing gate in the MSEDCL area. Despite adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall, Bhoir bravely proceeded with the repair to restore power supply. Unfortunately, he suffered an electric shock during the operation and collapsed unconscious.”
Immediate medical assistance was provided to Bhoir, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
WR has offered a job to Bhoir’s wife and has disbursed compensation and ex gratia totaling nearly Rs. 40 lakh, along with settlement dues.
