Coimbatore: The Karumathampatti all women police have arrested a 21-year-old woman and her mother from Bihar’s Darbhanga district for their involvement in child trafficking.
The arrested women were identified as H Neha Kumari and her mother H Poonam Devi, 61. The mother-daughter duo had allegedly kidnapped two children from Bihar and handed over them to M Maheshkumar, 34, and his wife M Anjalikumari, 24, who ran a hotel at Appanaickenpatti near Sulur.
The couple sold one of the two children to D Vijayan, 48, a farmer of Thimmanaickenpalayam in Sulur, for Rs 2.5 lakh and another to truck driver Rambabu from Andhra Pradesh.Police rescued the two children in the first week of June.
Mahesh and Anjali were arrested on June 3. Vijayan was arrested on Saturday and produced before a judicial magistrate in Sulur. He was remanded in judicial custody and later lodged at the Coimbatore central prison.
