Erode: More than 235 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from an auditor’s house at NGO Colony in the town on Saturday night.
The burglary occurred when the auditor, K Subramaniam, 69, and his family were away in Theni for a family function.
The burglary came to light on Sunday night when the house owner found the front door of the house broken open and immediately informed the Surampatty police.
Surampatty police inspector S Vairam said, “More than 235 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth 1.2 crore were stolen from the house.”
Fingerprint experts and a sniffer dog were brought to the spot as part of the investigation.
The Surampatty police have registered a case and collected CCTV camera footage in the area.
